21CN

The 21st Century Network (21CN) programme is the network transformation project of the UK telecommunications company BT Group PLC for voice and data.

BT has invested billions of pounds in changing out the various UK exchanges for a new IP based system that will carry data heavy information over the BT network. This is great for iB2i solutions and our customers, the technology is out there and the infrastructure is being supported to ensure the correct quality of service.

ADSL2+

ADSL is the technology used to connect you to the internet via copper telephone lines. ADSL2+ enables faster data transmission and a greater capacity than standard ADSL, allowing for much faster broadband speeds.

Along with the BT 21CN upgrade, the ADSL2+ update provides speeds of up to 24Mb – this is three times faster than previous standard ADSL speeds.

Annex M

Annex M is a new feature that is only available on ADSL2+ connections. It provides higher upload speeds by trading some of the download speed.

Annex M is a good choice for making a higher amount of outbound calls on an ADSL2+ connection with our iB2i PBX, supporting 38 concurrent calls per broadband connection.

FTTC - Fibre to the Cabinet

Fibre to the Cabinet technology provides your business access to significant increases in broadband speeds, up to 80Mbs downloads. Downloading can take a fraction of the time compared to ADSL. For confirmation of the speeds your line can support please use our broadband checker.

Business FTTC connections provide a significant boost in upload speeds compared to ADSL, which can be up to 20Mbps. By delivering a higher upload speed vastly increases the amount of outbound calls that can be made, on a single FTTC broadband package you can make over 300 concurrent calls!

Openreach Modem Included

As part of the activation cost the visiting engineer will supply and connect an Openreach modem. This is used to connect the line to your network. It should remain powered up and connected at all times.

Router Still Required

Despite the fact that a modem is being supplied you will still need a router to share the connection on your network.

FTTP - Fibre to the Premises

Brilliant broadband speeds at a fraction of the cost of a leased line. It is however worth noting that despite the high speeds you will be subject to exchange contention and the same support levels as ADSL and FTTC. A leased line does still deliver more, but at a higher price. . For confirmation of the speeds your line can support please use our broadband checker.

Business FTTP connections provide a significant boost in upload speeds compared to ADSL and FTTC, which can be up to 30Mbps. By delivering a higher upload speed vastly increases the amount of outbound calls that can be made, on a single FTTP broadband package you can make over 460 concurrent calls!

Openreach Modem Included

LLU

LLU is short for Local Loop Unbundling, a process that lets companies other than BT install equipment in local telephone exchanges. This makes it possible for them to use the pre-existing copper wires that connect to the exchange for the provision of broadband services.

Our LLU package is offered as an alternative to the other broadband packages, as this sits on a different network to BT Openreach, running off Cable & Wireless, providing another option where BT Openreach network connections are not available.

The LLU connection is a very good option as a secondary connection if your primary BT Openreach connection goes down, as both are on different networks, the other secondary connection will pick up and keep your business going.

As standard our broadband packages don’t come with a router, which you will need to share the connection on your network. Our broadband packages will work with most good quality routers, you can use your own router if you prefer or purchase one from us:

We recommend the following routers:

Cisco RV110W Router

A good quality wireless router that can easily connect to the Openreach supplied modem as well as other ADSL connections. It has x4 RJ45 ports on the rear to connect to your network, and it has a wireless interface for connecting hundreds of other network devices. A reliable router, suitable for most small business applications.

Cisco RV320 Router

This is an advanced router that will support not only ADSL 2+ connections, but allow you to connect FTTC via its additional WAN port. This can be ideal in an office environment for falling over to ADSL in the event that your fibre to cabinet connection develops a fault. This router also boasts a USB port for use with a 3G dongle as the ultimate backup solution in the event all your lines are down.

This is an advanced router that will support not only ADSL 2+ connections, but allow you to connect FTTC via its additional WAN port. This can be ideal in an office environment for falling over to ADSL or to an LLU network in the event that your fibre to cabinet connection develops a fault or any other primary connection, switching over to secondary mode.

This router also boasts a USB port for use with a 3G dongle as the ultimate backup solution in the rare event all your connections are disrupted. Thus offering three levels of backup to keep you going!
